Debenhams has warned the Welsh finance minister it will be pressured to shut its key shops in Wales except if the federal government reverses a final decision on enterprise prices reduction.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has granted a prices vacation to all retail, leisure and hospitality firms for a year.

In a letter found by the BBC, Debenhams’ chairman writes that the transfer threatens the viability of its major outlets in Wales in Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, Wrexham and Llandudno.

Debenhams’ chairman Mark Gifford tells Welsh Finance Minister Rebecca Evans: “It is deeply regrettable that, by electing to just take a different tactic to that taken somewhere else in the Uk, you have built it economically unviable for us to continue on buying and selling the the vast majority of our Welsh enterprise.
“You have unsuccessful to realize the situation, where by Debenhams Retail Constrained is in administration and will cease to pay small business charges unless of course it chooses to reopen its stores in Wales.
“It will be not able to reopen its stores until you reverse your final decision.”
According to genuine estate products and services firm Altus Team, Debenhams has small business fees liabilities in Wales of £2.35m for the existing economic year.
