TikTok skin trend accused of ‘promoting colourism’

The development has reignited discussion about colourism in India – and over and above

A viral TikTok trend in India has been accused of endorsing colourism.

It involves customers digitally darkening their pores and skin colour and searching unfortunate – right before revealing their all-natural, lighter pores and skin tone at the finish and smiling.

The music has been utilized more than 21,000 instances, with the movies getting hundreds of thousands of views.

‘Black heart’

Radhika Parameswaran, a professor at Indiana College and commentator on colourism, claims this development is disconnected from the original context.

TikTok backlash

Because the first movie in this pattern went up before in April, some of the films have been deleted. But quite a few a lot more continue to be on the system.
