Walsh defends BA job cuts in face of state help on pay

Willie Walsh, the manager of British Airways’ owner, IAG, has defended the firm’s selection to make 12,000 employees redundant.

He was questioned by MPs why the government’s occupation retention plan was not sufficient to halt the occupation cuts.

The Treasury’s job retention scheme cash 80% of workers wages for those people put on furlough and was introduced in to cut down position losses because of to coronavirus.

He praised the plan as “substantial” but reported he would nevertheless have to push on with redundancies and claimed they ended up declared in line with authorized advice.
